Kitimat is a working town first. Aluminum from Rio Tinto BC Works has moved through this valley for decades, and the LNG Canada, Cedar LNG, and Coastal GasLink projects have added a second wave of industrial construction and long-term jobs on top of it. Skilled trades crews, marine logistics through the Port of Kitimat, and the healthcare teams at Kitimat General Hospital and Northern Health all keep the community running around that industrial core. Whatever draws people here, most of Kitimat's businesses exist to serve them — and that's where we come in.
But running a business in Kitimat right now isn't only about industrial demand. In the District of Kitimat's 2025 Business Walk survey, "lack of customers/economic climate" edged out staffing as the top challenge business owners reported, and outside competition and rising supply-chain costs weren't far behind. Many owners also told surveyors that brand identity and marketing were a weak spot — not for lack of trying, but because building and running a professional online presence takes time most owners don't have between running the shop and everything else.
Housing adds another layer. With average rents pushing close to $2,000 a month, recruiting and keeping entry-level and service staff is genuinely hard, and that pressure shows up in how much time an owner or a handful of staff can spend on marketing, booking, or admin instead of serving customers. It's also worth noting that more than a third of Kitimat's 700-plus licensed businesses operate home-based, with no physical storefront in City Centre, Service Centre, or Nechako Centre — which means a website and a digital presence aren't a nice-to-have, they're the storefront.
That's the gap EduWeb Consulting fills. We build websites, booking and scheduling tools, and automation that take routine work off your plate — whether you're a home-based service business that needs to be found online, a downtown retailer trying to fill a storefront the District's pop-up-shop pilot highlighted as vacant, or a contractor bidding on work tied to the industrial employers anchoring this region. We work with what makes Kitimat run, not a generic template built for somewhere else.
